Promethazine
with Codeine
Promethazine, brand name Phenergan, is used to relieve watery,
itchy, red, irritated eyes runny nose, sneezing and itching caused
by hayfever and allergies. Also used to treat nausea, vomiting and
motion sickness. More relevant to the addition of codeine is its
use as a sedative after surgery to relieve apprehension.
Promethazine
is usually taken as prescribed and no more or less should be taken,
also the frequency of the doses should not be changed. It is usually
found in oral tablet, oral liquid and rectal suppository form.
One
of the issues with Promethazine is that using tobacco products like
cigarettes decreases its effectiveness. Side effects are varied
but are not common.
