Fiorinal
and Codeine
Fiorinal is the Canadian name given to the composition of Aspirin,
Barbiturates and Codeine. In the united states it is more commonly
known as Ascomp with Codeine No.3 or Butinal with Codeine No.3.
Very
commonly used to relieve headaches and other kinds of pain. It is
more effective than the use of Aspirin or Barbiturates on its own,
the composition of all three requiring less of each part. Caffeine
is also added to help relieve headaches.
It
should be noted that Codeine, Barbiturates and Caffeine are habit
forming and tolerance can build up as the dosage of the medication
is increased. Although Aspirin is not habit forming taken in large
doses it can cause complications.
Precautions
should be taken to protect against the effect of allergic reactions
by informing your physician before taking this medication. Generally
speaking there are a lot of interactions that could happen while
taking Fiorinal and it should be taken very carefully.
The
dosage for adults should be one or two capsules every four hours
to relieve the pain with no more than six capsules taken per day.
Drowsiness is one of the more common side effects when taking Fiorinal.
