Codeine
Dosage
There is no set dose for codeine. Tylenol numbers 2,3 and 4 are
an indication of the capability of the medication to control pain
with no.2 for mild pain and no.4 for moderate. It is best to start
with the lowest possible effective dose so as to offset the effects
of tolerance. Starting at a high dose renders all the lower doses
ineffective in the future because the body builds a tolerance
to the medication.
The
lethal dose for codeine can typically be 800mg though it is not
fixed but varies from one person to another. 120mg is considered
to be a very high dose as in the case of 60mg of dihydrocodeine
(Vicodin) which is effectively 120mg of normal codeine.
It
is very important to understand that only your doctor can set the
dosage and so it is very important to seek medical advice before
undertaking codeine pills for pain relief. In addition to that there
is the additional complication of addiction which happens over prolonged
non typical use.
