Codeine
Addiction and Withdrawal
Codeine being a natural opiate can cause addiction if taken over
an extended time. The use of this drug causes gradual tolerance
to its effect similarly over an extended time.
Therefore
when taking codeine it is important to start taking the lowest possible
effective dose. Such as using compositions like Tylenol No.3 instead
of taking only larger doses of Codeine Phosphate. The simultaneous
interaction of two or more drugs in one composition helps lower
the dose of each particular medication.
The
overdose quantity from one person to another varies but it can be
expected to commonly be anywhere from 400 to 800 mg taken oraly.
It is not a definitive figure and cannot be speculated on because
it varies from one person to another. The major indications that
an overdose has happened are muscle spasticity and difficulty or
a halt in breathing. The only way to treat an overdose is to seek
professional medical help.
